James Madison Program

Princeton’s “James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions”; conservative civics institute founded 2000 and directed by Robert P. George; postdoctoral pipeline for conservative Catholic intellectuals; venue where Adrian Vermeule delivered his Schmittian “All Human Conflict Is Ultimately Theological” speech (2019); part of a broader network of George-orbit programs adjacent to elite universities (cf. The Program funds fellowships and events and has hosted a generation of natural-law and originalist scholars while increasingly serving as a host site for postliberal and Schmitt-curious work. Nathan Pinkoski held a postdoctoral fellowship there before moving to the Zephyr Institute and the Edmund Burke Foundation. Its institutional position — Princeton respectability paired with George’s Catholic conservative network — makes it a key node where mainstream legal academia, Catholic Integralism, and the Witherspoon Institute/Public Discourse world overlap.
